New Creations Celebration

New Creations Celebration

January brought a new year, new beginnings and the New Creations Reentry Mentoring Celebration!

The celebration was a morning of food and fun as mentors celebrated Tarrant County mentees with 1-3 years of being released from prison. It was a morning to celebrate women who have been released from a former way of life.

Drugs, prostitution and fraud landed them in prison, but when these women were released, they did not want to go back to their former way of life. Each one accepted help to live life differently. Some of the women chose transitional homes while some went home to restore families, but all of the women left with a mentor and community support services to help them take one day at a time, one step at a time.

We celebrate these women who have had many mental, physical and emotional issues to work through and addictions to overcome. Many of them were addicted to drugs for 20 or more years. They are an inspiration because of their perseverance despite numerous difficulties.

One incredible inspiration is Donna, a 54 year old woman who used drugs for 40 years. She had a mentor who started meeting weekly with her while she was in prison and continued the relationship after her release. Donna chose to live in a Christian transitional home which taught a new way to live drug free. This year she was successful in completing her GED, graduating from the Christian Women’s Job Corps, and is now enrolled in college. Donna is now the mother, daughter, sister, and aunt she is proud to be and her family is restored. She gives all glory to Jesus!

Judy, too, is a great inspiration. She started a mentoring relationship on the inside of prison and continued upon release to Tarrant County. Judy went to live with her son, daughter in law and granddaughter. What a wonderful reunion! She is now back with her husband and the entire family celebrated Thanksgiving together. A changed life with the Lord brought restoration to Judy as a drug free woman and restoration of a complete family!

The New Creations Reentry Mentoring Program makes it possible for women like Judy and Donna to begin mentoring relationships on the inside of prison and continue in those relationships after release. Support and accountability provided by mentors often make the difference between a successful return to society and re-offending. We celebrate our mentors and mentees who encourage one another with accountability and support!

Would you have?

Would you have?

  1. Had you been a German Christian during WWII would you have taken a stand against Hitler?
  2. Had you lived in the South during the civil rights conflict, would you have taken a stand against racism?
  3. When your grandchildren discover you lived during a day in which 1.75 billion people were poor and 1 billion were hungry, how will they judge your response?
